The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) has named James H. Schloemer, Chief Executive Officer of Continental Properties Company, has its Chair for the 2024-24 term. Antonio Marquez, Principal and Managing Partner of Comunidad Partners, joins as Secretary for the two-year term.

"As rental housing providers navigate uncertain economic conditions and legislative and regulatory risks both in Washington, D.C. and in states throughout the country, I intend to highlight the widespread consensus that our nation is facing a housing affordability challenge fueled by a severe housing shortage and that the solution is greater supply," said Schloemer in a release.

Other officers include Vice Chair Julie Smith, Chief Administrative Officer of The Bozzuto Group; Treasurer Laurie Baker, Chief Operating Officer of Camden Property Trust; Sharon Wilson Géno, NMHC President; and Immediate Past Chair Ken Valach, Chief Executive Officer of Trammell Crow Residential.

"This is an incredibly important and unique time for rental housing providers throughout the nation," said Marquez in the release. "Unlike perhaps ever before there is growing agreement that the nation is facing serious housing affordability challenges and that the solutions must be supply-focused. I'm looking forward to working with my fellow officers, NMHC staff, and, most importantly, our members to work with lawmakers on solutions that will lower housing costs and broaden housing equity."
