How Apartment Residents Feel About Smart Locks

Millennials value smart locks, according to a new survey from lock maker Schlage.

Sixty-one percent of millennial survey respondents prioritize apartment communities that offer electronic access, and 55 percent of this demographic will pay more for an apartment with high-tech door locks.

The survey also asked about overall smart-home trends, and 63 percent of all respondents said apartment communities will need to offer residents smart-apartment apps within the next 10 years. Almost half of respondents—45 percent—also think traditional door keys will go the way of the VCR in the next decade.

In addition, 63 percent of survey respondents said they would move out of an apartment if they thought it was not secure enough.
