Members of the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD) recently hosted property tours with new members of Congress from the Metroplex.

First, on August 23, Congressman Van Taylor of the 3rd Congressional District visited called Country Lane Seniors in McKinney. The community is an Alpha-Barnes property and is a senior community is financed by the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program.

Thanks to NAA/AAGD member Hugh Cobb and his team at Alpha Barnes for hosting the tour. Country Lane is a 3 campus, 500-unit affordable/senior community. Congressman Taylor and the AAGD members had a discussion of the LIHTC and the importance of the program. Afterwards, the congressman also had a meet-and-greet with about 30 constituents. The Congressman previously served in the Texas House, and while he currently does not serve on a Congressional committee directly involved in housing, the tour was a great way to introduce our industry to him.

On September 4, AAGD hosted Congressman Lance Gooden (5th Congressional District) at a senior community in Mesquite. Special thanks to Robert Tinning of Churchill Residential for setting up the visit. After the tour, Congressman Gooden had a meet-and-greet with 40 residents, where they discussed a wide range of issues.

AAGD has had a relationship with Cong. Gooden since his days in the Texas Senate and his membership on the House Financial Services Committee makes him a friend in high places.

Property tours with your elected officials at any level of government are a great way to introduce policy makers to the people and the priorities that power the apartment industry. Would you like to host a property tour? Contact Peter Fromknecht to get more information.
