Consumers are now making more purchases online than at stores, according to an annual survey by United Parcel Service (UPS) released in June.
The online survey, conducted in Q1 2016, based on 5,330 respondents, revealed that 51 percent of purchases occurred online. Respondents were among those who said they made at least two online purchases in a typical three-month period.
Last year, online shopping stood at 48 percent and at 47 percent the year before that. Millennials make 54 percent of their purchases online, which is up, but the growth in adoption of online shopping by older groups is greater (49 percent this year compared to 44 percent a year ago).
And while Amazon comprises 60 percent of all online shopping, Wal-Mart announced in May that it is testing a two-day shipping subscription service and will create regional delivery networks. This represents the boldest attempt yet by a major traditional retailer to compete head-on with Amazon Prime, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Apartment communities continue to weight their options when it comes to providing for package delivery at their communities.
