Sun Belt Markets Among Best for New Apartments

New apartments have spread across the U.S. during the past 10 years. Here’s more on where they’re popping up.

The number of new apartments opened in the past 10 years was analyzed by RentCafe based on unit size, occupancy rate and neighborhood quality. Many of the top 50 cities to find a new apartment were in the Sun Belt—Texas had 12 cities in the top 50, while Florida had seven.

Boca Raton, Fla., was the top city to find a new apartment, followed by Texas’ Midland, Humble, Frisco and McKinney. Spring and Katy also represented Texas in the top 10.

Focusing on large cities, Denver is the top city for new apartments. Washington, D.C., Portland, Ore., Chicago and Charlotte, N.C., finish the top five in the large-city category.

Frisco witnessed the largest increase in new apartments at nearly 200%. Oakland, Calif., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and New Jersey, N.J., also saw increases of at least 135%.
