NAAPAC

NAAPAC has made significant fundraising progress during the first quarter of 2024 by raising approximately $333,000. Suppliers have played a crucial role in our fundraising efforts by contributing more than $147,000. With this amount, suppliers are on track to surpass the 2024 National Suppliers Council's (NSC) fundraising goal of $510,000. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the suppliers for their unwavering support.

NAAPAC would like to recognize the following individuals who are part of an ever-growing list of dedicated NAAPAC donors who have already given or pledged at the Platinum level. We appreciate your continued support and for going above and beyond.

NAA affiliates are continuing to make steady progress toward their 2024 Fund Our Future goal. To date, 16 affiliates have already reached their fundraising goal for the year. To track your own affiliate’s progress, please click here. We are grateful to all our affiliates who are working hard to strengthen the impact of NAAPAC.

NAA at National League of Cities in D.C.

March 11-13, NAA joined the National League of Cities (NLC) Congressional Cities Conference in Washington, D.C. along with more than 2,000 local leaders from across the country. This year marks the 100th anniversary of NLC and throughout its history, housing has been a consistent priority.

The sessions centered around housing took the lead from 2023 NLC Housing Supply Accelerator: A national campaign to advance and incentivize local approaches to land use, zoning and housing development and preservation. NAA’s participation in the effort and previous relationships with other Housing Supply Accelerator members lead to more robust conversations throughout the conference. In addition to the general discussions on improving efforts locally to address housing needs and housing production goals, local elected officials were encouraged to discuss the Choice in Affordable Housing Act and YIMBY on their NLC Hill Day visits with federal legislators.

Advocate Wrap Up

A record number of apartment industry advocates made their voices heard on March 13, the Lobby Day of NAA’s annual Advocate conference. And by preliminary accounts, it has been one of our most successful conferences ever:

  • 850 people registered for the issues briefing
  • 785 people participated in meetings on Capitol Hill
  • At least 260 meetings were conducted by NAA advocates with their Members of Congress
  • Post-meeting feedback has been submitted for at least 235 meetings (90%)
  • According to post-meeting reports, at least 30 Members of Congress who met with NAA advocates agreed to take the policy action requested. Four Congressional offices have already formally co-sponsored one of NAA’s key bills!

Members and affiliates should look for guidance soon following up with the offices they met with, but for now, we thank everyone for their hard work!

Housing Affordability Program (HAP) Update

On March 15, 2024, the NAA Board of Directors met and unanimously approved a $50,000 HAP application for Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington (AOBA). The NAA HAP funding will be matched by $50,000 of AOBA funds to support a campaign to fight rent control legislation making its way through the process in the Prince George’s County Council. The proposed rent control is expected to receive a vote anticipated before the existing temporary rent cap ends in April 2024. Work on the HAP campaign to challenge the bill began moments following the HAP application approval.

For more information on NAA's HAP please contact April Capone, Director of External Affairs and Affiliate Engagement, at [email protected].
