Aimco Gives $130,000 in Scholarships for Students in Affordable Housing

Students who live in affordable, subsidized housing nationwide are pursuing their dreams of higher education with the help of scholarships funded by Apartment Investment and Management Company (Aimco).

The multifamily housing REIT's recent 2014 donation of $130,000, raised in the company's 11th Annual Aimco Cares Golf Classic, brings its total fund contribution to $695,000 over the past five straight years.

"These amazing students are passionate about their education and focused on creating a bright future for themselves and their families," said Patti Shwayder, Aimco's senior vice president of government relations and communications. "The Aimco Cares Opportunity Scholarship reflects Aimco's corporate citizenship values, and commitment to education."

The scholarships are awarded based on four factors: financial need, scholastic merit, community leadership, and volunteerism. Over the last five years, nearly 200 low-income students have had the opportunity to attend college, due in large part to Aimco's support.
