YIMBY-Curious: Schuetz Surveys Presidential Candidates
Brookings Fellow Jenny Schuetz sees the big picture. As she recently wrote in the Atlantic, some of America’s Democratic Presidential hopefuls share her vision, and some have not yet embraced it.
Schuetz goes on in her column to name names! Cory Booker, Julian Castro, Amy Klobuchar, and Elizabeth Warren all share Schuetz’s vision. Or, parts of it. These are the Presidential candidates whose housing platforms include some form of carrot or stick to loosen local zoning rules for multifamily housing.
While housing has come up only sparsely on the campaign trail thus far, Schuetz sees its potential to be a game-changer in the later running of the race as candidates winnow and their plans receive more scrutiny from the public.
She goes on to contrast portions of the candidates’ plans that are more traditionally Democratic with other provisions that have a decidedly pro-competition dint, as do the various sections about local zoning practices.
As the campaigns continue, look for more coverage from NAA about the candidates, their plans and the developments of the race.
