Windfern Pointe Apartments Named 2017 NAA Community of the Year
ARLINGTON, VA – Windfern Pointe Apartments received the 2017 National Apartment Association Community of the Year award during a ceremony as part of the 2017 NAA Education Conference & Exposition in Atlanta.
The annual awards program recognizes excellence and leadership in the apartment housing industry. These national awards celebrate builders, industry professionals and affiliated apartment associations that make unique contributions to our industry.
“The Community of the Year Award represents the highest honor a community may earn,” said NAA President & CEO Robert Pinnegar, CAE. “The Excellence Awards honor the best of the best in our industry. We celebrate Windfern Pointe Apartments as it provides a standard of achievement for our entire industry.”
Managed by Veritas Equity Management, Windfern Pointe is a 200-apartment garden community in Houston.
Built in 1979, the community faced significant deferred maintenance issues when it was purchased from a cash-strapped non-profit organization by Veritas. The new owners immediately invested $700,000 on a renovation that included an $80,000 playground and pavilion, additional landscaping, 116 new HVAC units, a comprehensive paint job, a new leasing office, remodeled kids club room, an energy-efficient boiler, a re-plastered pool with new decking, a water conservation project and more.
Veritas focused on the many children and family who reside at the property. The company, along with Urban Outreach Ministries, organized a successful kids club that provides a safe and nurturing after-school activity for children. A full-time kids club manager helps children with their homework, gives them a nutritious snack and supervises playtime with their peers. The program also offers extended summer hours, vacation bible school, soccer camps and more.
Windfern Pointe was chosen among the communities that won category-specific NAA Excellence Awards, as the recipient of Best Community 20+ years (More than 150 units).
