Houston will deliver the most new apartments in 2016, but Dallas will take over the top spot in 2017, according to August data from Axiometrics.
Next year, 22,442 new apartment units will hit the Dallas market, close to the 22,252 units that will come online in New York City. The Big Apple is in the No. 2 spot for new construction in 2016, as well.
Rounding out the top five cities for new supply in 2017 are Washington, D.C. (12,152 units), Houston (12,020 units) and Los Angeles (10,323 units), which all made the top five new supply list for 2016.
New entries in the top 10 cities for new supply in 2017 are Denver (7,944 units) and Chicago (6,538 units), at the No. 8 and No. 10 spots, respectively. Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee, will leave the top 10 new supply cities in 2017.
