Craigslist ads lose popularity as apartment marketers look for more effective ways to reach customers.

Social media marketing is growing dramatically among apartment professionals, according to a Multifamily Insiders 2017 Apartment Marketing Strategies Report. A larger number of respondents, 77 percent, increased their use of social media last year.

Email marketing (a 47-percent increase) and Pay-Per-Click advertising (a 44-percent increase) also increased among marketers. Only 19 percent of marketers increased their use of Craigslist ads and 46 percent reported decreases.

But Multifamily Insiders’ Brent Williams says it may be too early to totally give up on Craigslist. “Craigslist is an interesting topic, in that it was the hot marketing location four-plus years ago, but then spiraled downward following changes to the Craigslist platform,” He writes. “In fact, many people had left Craigslist for dead, but at the NAA Education Conference and Exposition, Lauren Curley, Chief Operating Officer of Bonaventure Realty Group, stated that Craigslist is still an excellent driver of leases.”
