NAA Launches Grassroots Tax Reform Campaign to "Protect the Lease"
Washington lawmakers are beginning the process to overhaul the U.S. tax code, a complex and ever-changing policy initiative that has the potential to profoundly impact the apartment housing industry nationwide for years to come. The last time Congress made major revisions to the tax code was in 1986, and our industry felt the negative ripple effects for years. We have learned from that experience and are taking proactive steps to inform the discussion.
To ensure that lawmakers get the full tax reform picture, NAA and the National Multifamily Housing Council have partnered to launch a national grassroots campaign to advocate for smart tax policy. Called Protect the Lease, the campaign encourages policy that promotes economic growth, job creation, and investment in our neighborhoods and communities without unfairly burdening the owners, operators and developers who pay taxes when they build, operate, sell or transfer communities.
Protect the Lease enables all corners of our industry to share their stories with lawmakers in a coordinated, strategic way. We know that the many faces and voices of the apartment housing industry will have a meaningful impact on lawmakers who are making decisions that could shape our industry and our lives for the foreseeable future.
We invite you to join our effort. Visit the campaign website, ProtecttheLease.com, to share your story with your lawmakers, letting them know how and why specific tax reform provisions matter to you, your business, and your community.
