NAA Board of Directors member Jeannette Cox, CAPS, Chief Operating Officer, Oddo Development Company, Lenexa, Kan., has been recognized by Ingram’s Kansas City Business Magazine as a top Woman Executives in Kansas City for 2018. This award recognizes positive executive leadership from women in organizations across the Kansas City region.
Cox shares her advice to aspiring women business leaders in rental housing:
“My advice is twofold; be your own advocate and find a champion,” Cox says. “Be able to take the initiative to move your career forward, be inquisitive and surround yourself with like-minded professionals who challenge you. Being fearless and having the willingness to seek opportunities takes you to the next level. Even if you don’t have all of the answers, learn as you go and find a way. It’s okay to make mistakes along the way. Be open to ever-changing environments so you are competitive in your field.
“Aligning yourself with mentors who are willing to share their knowledge and experience and who are supportive of your goals is tremendously valuable. Everyone faces challenges in their careers -- and I have certainly had my fair share -- but it is important to not back down. Knowing your craft, being able to confidently communicate your knowledge and speaking up are critical when it comes to gaining credibility and adding value.”
