ARLINGTON, VA – Kettler Management’s Jorge Blanco successfully defended his title on Friday, June 23 during the 2017 National Apartment Association (NAA) Maintenance Mania® National Championship in Atlanta. Blanco, a member of the Apartments and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington (AOBA), was among 20 finalists who advanced from a pool of thousands of competitors. Mike Shaffer, The Westover Companies, Newark, Del., and Anthony Alfaro, Gene B. Glick Company, Indianapolis, finished second and third respectively. AOBA took home the Spirit Award title.

The 11th annual National Championship, hosted by NAA and presenting sponsor HD Supply, took place during the 2017 NAA Education Conference & Exposition. Eight maintenance-focused challenges tested competitors’ skills and knowledge as they competed for the national title and nearly $20,000 in prizes courtesy of the presenting and national sponsors.

Skill competitions included:

  • AO Smith Water Heater Installation
  • CFG Faucet Repair
  • Fluidmaster Toilet Repair
  • Frigidaire Icemaker Installation
  • Kidde Fire and Carbon Monoxide Safety Installation
  • Kwikset Key Control Deadbolt Test
  • Seasons Ceiling Fan Assembly

The final event featured cars built using items used by maintenance techs that were then raced down a pinewood derby-style track.
