Hidden Cameras Found in Airbnb Rentals
Digested from New York Post
Hidden cameras have been found in several Airbnb rentals in the past few months, events that have reported via social media, having garnered much public attention.
Cases identified occurred in Florida, Houston, California and Montreal, with the most recent (Nov. 27) in an undisclosed location.
In response, Airbnb released a statement — saying they had “permanently banned” the homeowner and “supported our guests with a full refund and reimbursement for expenses incurred.” Airbnb also said such occurrences are “extremely rare.”
In one case it was reported at a rental posted by a homeowner. It was unclear if the others took place in apartments. In one case, the camera was disguised as a smoke detector. In another, it was a motion detector in the bedroom.
Airbnb’s policy requires hosts to fully disclose any security cameras on the listing and get consent where required.
