Apartment Leaders: Congressman-elect Van Taylor

Congressman-elect

Currently the sitting state senator from Texas Senate District 8, Nicholas “Van” Campen Taylor received a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps after college. He then joined the Marine Corps Reserves while earning his MBA at Harvard Business School. In 2003, he served in Iraq and led the first platoon into Iraq for his brigade, during a mission that rescued 31 wounded Marines during the pitched Battle of An Nasiriyah. For his service in Iraq, the Marine Corps awarded Captain Taylor the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Commendation Medal with “V” for valor.

After earning his MBA from Harvard, Van joined Churchill Capital Company, a firm focused on real estate finance where he still works today. He also serves as Vice Chairman of Texas Gulf Bancshares leading one of the most financially sound banks in Texas. He was first elected to his Texas House district in a runoff election in April 2010, and won election to the Texas Senate in November 2014.

He won his election last night by a margin of 54 percent to 44 percent for his Democratic challenger Lorie Burch, in the open seat of Texas’ 3rd Congressional district, vacated by retiring Representative Sam Johnson (R). Congressman-elect Taylor is primed to take his experience and his skills to the halls of the US Capitol. NAA is proud to welcome him to the Hill.
