The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has proposed new regulations that would ban smoking inside units and common areas and within 25 feet of housing or a public building. Although the new regulation would save $153 million per year in fire damage and renovations, critics say such savings may come with additional costs and may not fully cover all potential health threats.
