Stay-cation Advocacy: How to Engage Lawmakers from Your Own Back Yard
Engaging with policy makers doesn't end on Lobby Day - it only begins there. In this session, you will learn concrete steps you can take to make yourself an apartment industry resource to lawmakers back home in your district. From attending town hall meetings to hosting virtual property tours, individual constituent advocacy is what will move the needle on our issues.
Speakers
Protecting Rental Housing: At the Intersection of Federal and State Advocacy
The challenges the apartment industry faces in navigating the labyrinth of overlapping COVID-related federal and state measures highlights the increasing connections between federal, state and local advocacy for the industry. From pandemics to evictions to affordability to rent control, this session will underscore the need for industry advocacy to be increasingly issue-focused, and not only limited to jurisdictions.
Speakers
Exploring Emerging Policy Issues
The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic downturn has brought many rental housing issues to the forefront. The NAA Government Affairs team will dive into some of these, including employer mandates, evictions, resident screening and barriers to development, and discuss how these issues stand to impact you.
Speakers
Setting the Record Straight on Evictions
Eviction was a challenging issue for the industry long before COVID-19. With constant alarms about "eviction tsunamis," the challenge has only gotten harder. In this session, you will learn how to address eviction from the policy perspective of the industry--to both media and policy makers--and help debunk the myths and promote sustainable solutions.
Speakers
Navigating the Maze of Eviction Data
Industry advocates have almost certainly had a policy maker tell them "I just read Evicted by Matthew Desmond!" and then have to spend valuable time trying to talk through the nuances of legal filings and terminology while trying to fight off overly prescriptive proposals. How do you collect eviction data from the industry’s perspective? In this session, we will show you.
Speakers
Crafting Effective Rental Assistance Programs
Under the year-end stimulus legislation, Congress allocated $25 billion for emergency rental assistance. It is critical that state and local governments craft or refine existing rental assistance programs to ensure that the federal dollars are quickly and efficiently distributed to those across the income spectrum in need of emergency relief. Join us as we continue the discussion on effective rental assistance advocacy and program best practices.
Speakers
Issues Briefing and Q&A
Prepare for your virtual lobbying visit with NAA’s policy experts! We’ll lead you through the big issues – what we’re asking for, why we care, and how that will help the industry. We’ll also discuss specific policy areas relating to the issues and the latest on the environment in Congress before taking your questions.

NAAPAC Happy Hour (Sponsored by the National Suppliers Council)
Ham It Up with Hamilton!
Allow us to transport you on a musical journey into Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton with the extremely talented Lexi Lawson. Lawson joined the cast in the leading female role of Eliza Hamilton at the height of the show and logged over 1,000 performances. She also performed in the first national tour of In the Heights in the leading role of Vanessa, and she portrayed Mimi in the Broadway tour of Rent. Lexi will perform a song from Hamilton, followed by storytelling and Q&A about her days on the show and her other Broadway experiences. Afterwards, we’ll announce the winners of the NAAPAC raffles. Join us in the (virtual) room where it happens!
