Curb appeal is a critical component to any successful apartment community. NAA membership was invited to submit photos and descriptions of their curb appeal for the third annual units Magazine Curb Appeal Contest.
We received a record high total of more than 100 entries from a variety of communities ranging in type, age, location and budget. Hudson America’s Éilan was chosen by a panel of NAA member volunteers for top honors.
Proper focus on choosing the right amenities makes leasing easier for Cityscape Residential.
When it comes to conceiving project and programming in new markets, the Partners at Cityscape Residential conduct in-depth research about the needs of consumers to learn which onsite and off-site amenities are in demand and will set their communities apart.
The site’s context and neighborhood are central to determining project amenities. For example, at one of Cityscape’s newest properties under development in Louisville, Ky., the company expects a large cycling population both for recreation and transportation.
Professionals at PMI employ FaceTime to improve onsite communications using existing company resources.

With home-field advantage on his side, the Apartment Association of Metro Denver’s Lannon Quintana won the eighth-annual Maintenance Mania National Championship, June 20, at the 2014 NAA Education Conference & Exposition in Denver.
With an overall time of 1 minute, 17.485 seconds, Quintana, Holland Partner Group, was one of 20 finalists who qualified from a pool of thousands to represent the country’s most skilled maintenance technicians.
“[Dealing with personal issues] I’ve had the most difficult year of my life and this championship certainly helps,” Quintana says. “But the title wouldn’t mean nearly as much if it wasn’t at home in Denver.”
Lawnscaping is a captivating amenity for apartment community exteriors.
The grass may not always be greener on the other side in the apartment industry, but there are certainly plenty of options for creating the ultimate lawn experience (a growing lifestyle practice also known as lawnscaping) for residents. Developments in hybrid grasses over the years almost always offer the right kind of grass for the right setting.
Apartment communities have almost as many choices in grass varieties as they do types of countertops and flooring. The key is working with local county extension agents and landscape and lawnscape professionals to determine what is best for the area and type of use.
More than 8,000 attendees took over downtown Denver during the 2014 NAA Education Conference & Exposition June 18-21, reaching new heights with a record-breaking event.
This year marks NAA’s 75th Anniversary, and conference attendees proved that the association and industry are stronger than ever.
The Mile High City welcomed industry leaders from 46 states and the District of Columbia, as well as representatives from four foreign countries. With more than 50 breakout sessions across several learning areas, as well as world-renowned speakers— including actor, author and activist Michael J. Fox, ABC “Shark Tank” veterans Barbara Corcoran and Kevin Harrington, and because I said I would founder Alex Sheen—there was something for everyone.

Proper, thorough preparation is necessary before approaching your supervisor to propose your great new idea. It starts by asking yourself a few questions.
Many apartment industry marketing professionals have been there before. “Curses!” they exclaim after giving a 30-minute presentation for a project they fully believe would help their company, only to have their boss reject the proposal for any variety of reasons.“I did my homework,” they will claim.
Could they have picked the wrong day to present? The boss was in a bad mood: Who knew? Face it: Delivering the perfect sales pitch is never easy— even when giving it to someone in your own company.
With the goal of becoming better—not just bigger—the two largest property management companies joined forces in June when Greystar Real Estate Partners acquired Riverstone Residential Group from London based CAS Capital Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Regis Group PLC, owned by Nick and Peter Gould.
The company, which will continue under the name “Greystar,” comprises more than 385,000 apartment units.
