|In acquiring, renovating, and repositioning The Capitol on 28th, previously an affordable housing apartment community in Oklahoma City, DEI Communities forged an interesting relationship with the city's Police Department that helped greatly in the transition. DEI management helped the police hierarchy see the win-win nature of renovating this once crime-ridden property so that it would no longer be such a drag on their manpower. Department officials not only identified officers who could work for DEI on an off-duty basis, they were able to send additional patrol units to assist during the initial move-out demolition phase. Douglas Hastings, DEI's Senior Vice President for Property Management, sat down with Operations Insights to discuss the project, the sensitivities involved, and to give his advice on how other apartment managers can similarly work with area law enforcement.|
