See What Others Have to Say about Working in the Apartment Industry

Here at NAAEI we’re always looking for new ways to let others know about the career opportunities available in our industry as well as the ways in which education and professional designations can help one enhance their skills. In our latest effort, we are building a library of short videos that feature interviews with people working in the apartment industry. Each video is different and touches on topics important to our industry.

We started this project at the 2011 National Apartment Association Education Conference & Exposition where we interviewed PARAGON award winners. We continued that at this year’s conference but have branched out to include others who have their own stories to tell. Our industry is so diverse and includes people from so many different backgrounds that we really wanted to try to capture that in these videos.

For example, our 2012 Certified Apartment Manager of the Year Sandra Fick, NALP, CAM, joined the industry after a career teaching elementary school students in Ohio. She now teaches courses for the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association. In another video, we talk with 2012 Professional Designate of the Year Tracy Williams, CAM, CAPS, about her experience working in the Jacksonville, Fla. housing market, which suffered the full impact of the recent economic downtown. Tracy has been in the apartment industry for an amazing 38 years, so she has also has some invaluable insights that she shares about her experiences. You can’t help but smile while watching her describe the enthusiasm she has for the industry.

These are just two of the people you’ll meet when you watch our latest videos. We also sat down to talk with community and technical college representatives who attended the recent education conference in Boston. We asked them to join us at the conference so that we could explore new ways to work together. For some of them, it was their first exposure to our industry. You can see the amazement in their eyes as they talk about the experience. They all walked away excited about what they learned. When you watch their interviews, you’ll learn how to best work with your local college to offer industry training, as well as ways to let students know about job opportunities.

We’ve also put together a few videos on topics such as the value of professional designations, the many job opportunities available in our industry and why people agree that property management really is one of the happiest jobs in America. I encourage you to watch and share them with others. It’s not often that you have the opportunity to hear your peers describe what they love about our industry. Below are some quick links to the videos.

You can find all of our videos on the NAAhqVideos YouTube channel. We try to limit each video to a few minutes long, so you can easily watch them. We’ll be adding to these in the weeks ahead, so keep checking back.
