There's No Such Thing as a Free Lunch, but We Can All Have Biscuits and Free Websites

This morning, I made the short walk from NAA Headquarters, in near-frigid Washington DC weather, to the Chick-fil-A at Ballston Mall so I could stand in line for my free Spicy Chicken Biscuit. Word had spread through our office yesterday that our local and cherished Chick-fil-A would be giving away a free breakfast sandwich every day this week.

I developed a nice addiction to Chick-fil-A in college and I am now admitting that I pretty much stand in line for anything free. In my experience I have found that some people are as obnoxious as possible about free stuff, which borders on pure gluttony. It makes me uneasy. I am in the I-secretly-want-things-for-free-but-I’m-not-going-to-be-a-pain-about-it crowd. So sorry oatmeal, free breakfast sandwich wins today.

And the Chick-fil-A employees all had to deal with customer after customer who just wanted the free Spicy Chicken Biscuit. No coffee. No hash browns. Just free.

Imagine a free offer with no strings attached? Those are the best. No annoying presentation to sit through so you can have a nice steak dinner (ala my parents). No tricks into a timeshare in the Arctic Circle in January. No awkward pitches (Hello, is Julian Baton available?).

We all like free stuff. Swag. Loot. Whatever you want to call it.

So I’ll be Chick-fil-A for a minute… NAA offers its affiliates free websites. NAA (I should just tell you it’s me) will take your Web content and build a website for your organization. Here are some details:

Standard Association Website Features:

  • Your Affiliate Logo – Your Affiliate Association Logo will be placed on the site’s Home Page
  • Search Engine – A comprehensive search engine, with the option to search only your affiliate’s site, but also search the NAA site.
  • Navigation – Your choice of horizontal navigation (across the top of the page), vertical navigation links (on the left), or both. NAA offers up to 8 pages, including your home page, in any particular order.
  • “Affiliate of NAA” – The NAA logo links back to the NAA website.
  • State Affiliate Logo – If applicable, space is available space for a State Affiliate logo.
  • Body Text – The body of the page features your custom text and images.
  • Custom Footer – Each page has an area to place your footer information.
  • URL Extension – Your website will use the URL extension of your choice: or your existing URL redirected to your new site

The Fine Print (there always has be something here):

  • Your website is free to set up (unless you don’t have a URL, then you need to purchase the domain name)
  • You will only have to pay for your domain set up (if you don’t have one) and for any time over the four hour maximum per year.
  • This offer doesn’t expire like the Chick-fil-A free breakfast, but you shouldn’t wait to do it. Your members will thank you and you may impress your Board Members as well. Most affiliate websites can be set up in as little as 2-3 weeks.

  • Minimal work. If you don’t have a Web person at your organization or the thought of finding someone to do it for you makes you dizzy, you might want to consider NAA’s program.
  • Changes are done quickly. Within reason, most changes are turned around in 48-72 hours.
  • You have the pleasure of working with me on your website. Other people at NAA like me, so I thought I would add this one as a benefit.

So have it your way…Ok, that’s Burger King. Have your website your way.

I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you. Until then, enjoy the free breakfast.
