Average Q2 Price Per Unit: $88,500

 Finance Insider

Investors continue to prefer U.S. apartment communities over most other commercial properties, as total multifamily housing sales volume climbed almost 80 percent in Q2 2011 over the same three-month period a year ago, according to CoStar Group data.

While only a fraction of its mid-2007 peak, the nearly $15 billion in sales in that period brought total investment for the first six months of the year to $24.5 billion.

The average per-unit price of apartment communities topped $88,500 in Q2–the highest since Q3 2008.
