FY 2011 Funding Maintains Section 8 Voucher Funding
Political Insider
President Obama on April 15 signed a measure that funds the government through Sept. 30, 2011. While funding for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs was cut by an estimated $3 billion, the measure did fully fund all the Section 8 vouchers currently in use and includes funds to cover project-based rental assistance contracts.
This is a significant victory in light of the funding cuts HUD sustained. Maintaining full funding of the voucher program will remain a challenge, particularly since Congress has indicated that it will be using FY 2008 funding levels as the basis for beginning the FY 2012 budget discussions.
