Organization and business success begins and ends with leaders and leadership. Leaders convert opportunities to success. Leadership enables the transformation of vision into reality, risks into rewards, problems into solutions and the conversion of the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Collaboration, not cooperation, must be the desired result. When people collaborate, it is out of desire for an improved outcome for the good of the team. When people cooperate it is out of “necessity,” usually primarily for personal gain and, secondly, for team gain.
Within the real estate industry, leadership does matter. However, 71 percent of real estate leaders do not feel they have a “true” mentor (internal or external).
That is explained when considering that only 13 percent of their time is spent on strategy formulation, building customer relationships, financial planning, innovation/creativity and actual leadership mentoring and personal/professional development.
How else are real estate leaders spending their time?
Percent Activity
41 solving a crisis, problem or personnel matter
37 in meetings
13 on true leadership
9 on telephone or e-mail communications
