When meeting a person for the first time, you have eight seconds to make a first impression from which they will base character judgments.
Eight seconds. That’s a very long time if you’re riding a bull. Not so long if you’re meeting a prospective resident.
What does your first impression look like? More importantly, what does your eight seconds look like on a bad day, when you’re stressed out about the budget, move outs, and your boss crawling up your back? Or how about on a day when the apathy for your current situation is overwhelming?
On top of only giving you eight seconds to make an impression, the human psyche also requires 10 interactions of a vastly different nature to change someone’s initial opinion about you.
A strong appearance in those first eight seconds doesn’t just apply to potential residents. It’s also important to make a good first impression when interviewing potential employees.
Don’t forget: Stand to greet your potential new resident when they enter the office and wear a nametag and introduce yourself. Those first eight seconds matter.
