New Moves Program Places Homeless in Vacant Apartments

In April 2011, Maitland, Fla.-based Concord Management Limited launched the New Moves Partnership program in partnership with the non-profit organization Southern Affordable Services, Inc. to place homeless families in central Florida in vacant apartment units.

Today, the program has moved in over 260 families in three years—with several more move-ins pending—and is featured in the documentary “HOME.”

Lori Trainer, CAM, CAPS, Vice President of Public Relations for Southern Affordable Services, says since the release of the documentary, her organization has developed a relationship with the Florida Association of Realtors for larger families who may not fit in an apartment due to occupancy standard. They are also working with Habitat for Humanity.

“We are also going to identify New Moves families who we feel would be a good fit for Habitat for Humanity,” Trainer says. “What a transition for these families; homelessness to home ownership in just over a year!”
