ARLINGTON, Va., June 4, 2013 — His commitment to apartment industry education and the countless hours he has spent mentoring and leading others have earned Jeff Lowry, CAPS, the praise of those he has worked with as well as recognition by the National Apartment Association Education Institute with its 2013 Apartment Career and Education (ACE) Award.
“I have been privileged to build on the legacy Jeff left while NAAEI president,” said NAAEI President William Wollinger, CAPS, SHCM. “Some people would have taken a step or two back after two years as president, but Jeff jumped right back in and continues to work tirelessly on behalf of our industry.”
Lowry is president of operations for Madera Companies in Lubbock, Texas. He also is the immediate past president of the NAAEI board of directors, NAA Region VI vice president, longtime NAAEI faculty member, president of the Texas Apartment Association (TAA) Education Foundation and a member of the board of directors of both TAA and the Lubbock Apartment Association -- having previously served as president of both associations. He also is active with the Texas Real Estate Commission and the Institute of Real Estate Management.
After completing his two years as NAAEI president, Lowry continued to play an important role in the institute by taking an active role in its fund-raising campaign. Over the years, he has been a vocal supporter of NAAEI designation programs, has often served as a facilitator for the classes and has made sure that his employees benefitted from these programs. He also is chairing a Task Force to take the Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) and Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS) programs to higher levels and to reach broader audiences.
“During Jeff's two years as NAAEI president, he led the institute not just for the present but looking to the future needs of our industry,” said Susan Sherfield, national director of education for Mercy Housing. “He may not realize what a wonderful mentor he was to me when I first joined the NAAEI board of directors and (became) the chair of the Apartment Careers Committee. That is the type of person Jeff is. He gives of himself, encouraging and guiding others who want to get involved.”
Lowry will be recognized as part of the 2013 NAA Education Conference and Exposition on June 22 at the San Diego Convention Center. The NAAEI Apartment Career and Education Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the field of apartment career development and/or contributions made to, or on behalf of NAAEI and its professional education interests and initiatives. The ACE Awards are given annually and are awarded to both volunteer leaders and professional educators.
