NAA, NAAEI Announce 2013 Award Winners

National Awards Program Recognizes Apartment Industry’s Best

ARLINGTON, Va., April 23, 2013—The National Apartment Association (NAA) is pleased to announce the 2013 PARAGON award winners. The annual awards program recognizes the multifamily housing industry’s top communities, executives, employees and affiliate programs.

The winners will be recognized during the Awards breakfast with Bert Jacobs on Saturday, June 22, during the 2013 NAA Education Conference & Exposition in San Diego. The NAA PARAGON Awards recognition also will include the announcement of the NAA Community of the Year during the breakfast. The winner will be chosen among the communities that won category-specific PARAGON Awards listed below.

Builders, Owners and Developers Awards

  • Best Community, Less than 5 Years (under 150 units) was awarded to Eco Modern Flats, MC3 Management, Fayetteville, Ark.
  • Best Community, Less than 5 Years (over 150 units) was awarded to Palmera Apartments, Hills Properties, Cincinnati.
  • Best Community, 5-20 Years (under 150 units) was awarded to Metro Marina Bay, Lincoln Property Company, Quincy, Mass.
  • Best Community, 5-20 Years (over 150 units) was awarded to The Caruth at Lincoln Park, Lincoln Property Company, Dallas.
  • Best Community, 20+ Years (over 150 units) was awarded to The Village At Horsepen, Gumenick Properties, Richmond, Va.
  • Best Community, Green Housing was awarded to Eco Modern Flats, MC3 Management, Fayetteville, Ark.
  • Best Community, Specialty Housing – Affordable was awarded to The Homes at Old Colony, Beacon Residential Management, South Boston, Mass.

NAA Individual Awards

  • T&C Management Owner Chuck Sheldon, Albuquerque, N.M., was named Independent Rental Owner (IRO) of the Year (100 units or less).
  • Rockstar Capital Management Owner Robert Martinez, IROP, Houston, Texas, was named Independent Rental Owner of the Year (101-500 units).
  • Charles Stroud of Plano, Texas-based Appliance Warehouse of America Inc. received the National Suppliers Council (NSC) Achievement Award.

NAAEI Individual Achievement Awards

  • Suzanne Peperak (CAM) of Barrett & Stokely, Indianapolis, was named Professional Designate of the Year.
  • Stephanie Anderson (CAM) of Harbor Village Apartments, Richmond, Va., was named Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) of the Year.
  • Justin Reilly (NALP) of Ridgecrest Village, West Roxbury, Mass., was named National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP) of the Year.
  • Jose Alvarado (CAMT) of Northlake Manor Apartments, Humble, Texas, was named Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) of the Year.

Affiliated Association Awards

  • The Houston Apartment Association received the Communications Award.
  • The Greater Lexington Apartment Association received the Community Service Award.
  • The Apartment Association of Greater Dallas received the Education Award and the Government Affairs Award.
  • The Columbus Apartment Association (Ohio) received the Membership Development Award.

The NAA Education Institute (NAAEI) is also pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 ACE Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in the field of apartment career development and/or contributions made to, or on behalf of, the NAAEI, and its professional education interests and initiatives. Debbie Phillips, PhD, University of Georgia and Georgia Tech, Stockbridge, Ga., was awarded the Apartment Industry Educator ACE Award. Jeff Lowry (CAPS), Madera Residential, Lubbock, Texas, received the Apartment Industry Practitioner ACE Award.

Finally, the Anthony V. Pusateri Apartment Career Promotion Award recognizes an individual, a company or an association who has made the biggest impact creating awareness of careers in the apartment industry among high school and college students, military veterans and spouses or career changers through outreach activities. The Arizona Multihousing Association was awarded the Comprehensive Apartment Career Promotion Award, and the Charleston Apartment Association was awarded the Single Apartment Career Promotion Event Award.
