The macroeconomic backdrop over the last several years has proven to be the perfect landscape for REITs. Not surprisingly, apartments have led the way. With the rise in both single-family home prices and mortgage rates in recent months, apartment demand is expected to remain strong as long as the recovering employment market does not stumble. In particular, multifamily housing will continue to benefit from short-term leases, enabling owners to raise rents as the economy rebounds.
