ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 11, 2013 — The National Apartment Association (NAA) has created a scholarship program for apartment industry minority employees as its way of honoring McKinley managing director of residential client services Alex Jackiw, CAPS, CPM, who is a leader in apartment industry education and career promotion.
The Alexandra Jackiw Leadership Scholarship covers tuition and travel to the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) Leadership Experience: Powered by Dale Carnegie, which is a two-day course that teaches mid-level managers how to successfully lead, inspire and motivate. The scholarship also covers travel costs for the recipient to meet in person with Jackiw for a mentoring session.
The scholarship program is open to minority apartment industry employees with the goal of increasing the number of minority apartment industry leaders to better reflect our increasingly diverse society.
“Alex has always had a passion for education,” said 2012 NAA Chairman of the Board Jerry Wilkinson, CCIM. “As a leader of both the National Apartment Association and the National Apartment Association Education Institute, she understands the importance of increasing the pool of potential minority leaders for our industry.
“On top of Alex's investment of time by serving as a NAA leader, she also teaches NAAEI's Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor program and serves as a property management instructor at Virginia Tech and Ball State University. And, she serves as a mentor to many young industry professionals.”
Jackiw served as 2013 NAA Chairman of the Board and was president of NAAEI from 2008 to 2009. In 2011, NAAEI recognized her for her work with its Apartment Career and Education Award.
The Alexandra Jackiw Leadership Scholarship will be presented annually. If interested in donating to the Alexandra Jackiw Leadership Scholarship fund, please contact Barbara Wolf at 703-797-0613.
