ARLINGTON, Va. / March 13, 2014 – The National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) selected Jason Eaves of Hawthorne Residential Partners as the winner of its 2014 “Get Reel” Career Video Challenge.

Eaves, Vice President of Training and Education for the Greensboro, N.C.-based company, was one of dozens to enter the fourth annual competition, which challenged apartment industry professionals to create a video sharing what they enjoy most about their jobs and the many career opportunities available in the multifamily housing industry.

As the winner, Eaves will receive free registration, hotel accommodations and airfare to the 2014 NAA Education Conference & Exposition June 18-21 in Denver—his first NAA conference.

Eaves was recruited as a part-time leasing consultant in 2004, and has since worked in the apartment industry as an assistant manager, community manager, regional marketing director, regional manager, and—most recently—vice president of education and training.

He says he heard about the “Get Reel” challenge through North Carolina’s Triangle Apartment Association, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors.

“There are numerous things I love about the job, but my favorite has to be the people I work with,” Eaves says. “They’re intelligent, high-energy and extremely passionate about what they do. I wanted to share that experience within the industry. I knew I wanted my video to be different. I had a lot of ideas, but decided that an illustration video may be the most fun.”

Eaves says the biggest challenge was recording and hearing his own voice on video.

“I have a new-found respect for voice-over artists,” he says. “It took about 3.5 hours for me to get the voice-over part right. Scripting, shooting, illustrating, narrating and editing were all part of the process for this video.”

Members of NAAEI’s Apartment Careers Month Committee reviewed all of the contest entries and selected six finalists. A panel of judges then narrowed down the finalists and selected Eaves as the winner. NAAEI conducts the contest every February as part of its national Apartment Careers Month.
