ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 26, 2013 – Gerry Henigsman, CAPS, received the National Apartment Association (NAA)’s first Association Executive Lifetime Achievement Award during a ceremony Nov. 8 at The Adolphus Hotel in Dallas.

Henigsman has served as Executive Vice President of the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD) for 22 years. During this time he helped develop a premier Legislative Affairs program that reduced fees and operating costs for apartment owners, create a new AAGD Career Center and develop a Hispanic Task Force for outreach to Dallas’ expanding Hispanic community.

Under his leadership, AAGD received several NAA Paragon Awards—an annual program recognizing the multifamily housing industry’s top communities, executives, employees and affiliate programs—for its community service, education and government affairs efforts. In addition to his work with AAGD, Henigsman served on several committees for the city of Dallas and the Texas Apartment Association (TAA). He was named TAA Association Executive of the Year three times. In 2000, Henigsman also was named NAA Association Executive of the Year.

He is also actively involved in philanthropic efforts. AAGD’s Toys for Tots drive secures over $50,000 annually in toys and donations, and the Pennies for Police Program has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a trust fund benefitting families of officers injured in the line of duty.

“Gerry is a gentleman and a man of integrity, both within this industry and beyond,” NAA President and CEO Doug Culkin, CAE, said. “He has always championed NAA and lead by example.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize the contributions of NAA’s supplier members and association executives for their long-term history of exemplary national service and accomplishments to the National Apartment Association and the apartment industry.
