 Phoenix Adding Multifamily Housing Recycling

This summer, the city of Phoenix will work with members of the solid-waste industry, local commercial properties, and multifamily housing owners and managers on a plan to make recycling easier and accessible to all residents and businesses. City code prohibits Phoenix's public works department from providing solid waste/recycling services to commercial businesses and multifamily housing communities with more than 30 units. Land use and zoning requirements have been another barrier to recycling. In many instances, a property has limited space for front-load dumpsters for both recycling and waste. Don Cassano of Waste Management remarks, "Our customers have been asking for this for years, but we can't do it because of zoning. Our goal is to offer this service that they're asking for. We want a nice bin for people to put in all their papers, glasses and metals."
