Doug Culkin is President and CEO of the National Apartment Association. Culkin earned his B.A. in History and Political Science from Northeastern University, Boston, Mass., and a M.B.A. in Finance & Investments from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
Culkin has spent the past 30 years in senior association executive positions. Culkin spent six years as Vice President of Finance and Administration with the American Society of Travel Agents. Culkin spent his next ten years as CEO & Executive Vice President of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents.
Culkin joined the National Apartment Association in 1999 as Executive Vice President and was named President in 2005. Under Doug’s leadership, NAA has grown from 24,000 to 52,000 members and from a budget of $4.5 million to $17 million. During his tenure, the NAA Education Institute was formed, and Culkin was actively involved with the $5.6 million fundraising effort utilized to fund the Institute’s goals and objectives. He serves on both the NAA Board of Directors and the NAA Education Institute Board of Directors.
Culkin is an active member of the American Society of Association Executives and holds their CAE, Certified Association Executive, designation. He was named an ASAE Fellow in 1998. Culkin is also a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Committee of 100. The Association Committee of 100 is composed of the country's leading association Chief Staff Executives.
