Greystar announced today that it will host a national walk-a-thon for its team members on March 2, 2012. The walk-a-thon is part of Greystar’s corporate wellness initiative called GetFit.
The GetFit program also provides Greystar’s on-site and corporate team members with a variety of tools, resources, educational programs, and other health-related information, such as health assessments, free nutritional seminars, and smoking cessation programs through their health partner, United Healthcare. To further support the company’s commitment to wellness, Greystar launched a pilot program using Virgin HealthMiles, a subsidiary of Richard Branson’s venture capital organization, the Virgin Group.
“Virgin HealthMiles excels in engaging participants in the process of making measurable improvements to their health,” said Bill Maddux, Chief Operating Officer for Greystar. “The HealthMiles program provides our team members with interactive tools to help them track their daily activity in order to encourage healthy lifestyle changes.”
Greystar team members participating in the pilot program, receive all the features and benefits provided by Virgin HealthMiles including an interactive website to assist with performance tracking, a free pedometer and are eligible to receive up to $500 a year in rewards. Virgin HealthMiles GoZone® pedometers track and validate the number of steps that individuals take on a daily basis. Participants then upload their data to their personal website, where they monitor their progress and see how many HealthMiles (points) they’ve earned. Participants can also take advantage of Virgin’s HealthZone® biometrics measurement stations to monitor their weight, blood pressure and body fat percentage on an ongoing basis.
