Arlington, VA, Jan. 8, 2007—The National Apartment Association (NAA) has hired Mark Ingrao as its Vice President of Government Affairs.
Ingrao served the previous five years as Vice President of Government Affairs for NAA affiliate The Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA), based in Washington, D.C.
In 2004, Ingrao helped AOBA win an NAA PARAGON Award for Government Affairs, based on its model legislation for the protection of building documents and records from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.
“Mark has a thorough understanding of the apartment industry and of government and legislative practices at all levels,” said NAA President Doug Culkin. “His experience makes him the ideal person to lead this key NAA department.”
For AOBA, Ingrao tracked more than 500 legislative initiatives annually while taking a proactive position on approximately 150 bills during each of the past five legislative sessions. He successfully lobbied AOBA’s proactive legislative agenda, including passage of major industry bills in the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 legislative sessions. He testified and advocated to regulatory, legislative and executive branches of the government regarding the interests of the multifamily and commercial property owners.
Ingrao is an active member of several professional and community organizations. He was appointed by the Fairfax Board of Supervisors to the Fairfax Affordable Dwelling Unit Advisory Board in 2002, is on the Executive Committee and Board of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance and is on the Board of the Virginia Public Access Project.
Ingrao is Past Chairman of the Board of Regents for Leadership Arlington and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and is currently on both Boards. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Community Residence, Inc. and formerly served on the board of the Arlington Free Clinic and CrisisLink’s Advisory Board.
In 1981, Ingrao received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Mary Washington College.
Ingrao replaces Barbara Vassallo, Esq., who led NAA’s Government Affairs department for the past 12 years.
