Washington, DC, November 10, 2008 – The National Apartment Association (NAA) announced today that Richard Ferraro, Ph.D., Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Virginia Tech University, is a confirmed presenter for its 2009 NAA Student Housing Conference & Exposition, scheduled to be held February 2-4, 2009 in Las Vegas.
“NAA welcomes Dr. Ferraro to present on the student in crisis at this conference,” Doug Culkin, CAE and NAA President said today. “Dr. Ferraro’s presentation will address the crisis at Virginia Tech in 2007, findings that are current and relevant to today’s college-age students and the housing professionals that interact with these students on a daily basis. His knowledge and experience will surely make a strong statement about crisis management to our attendees.”
Dr. Ferraro will present “The Student in Crisis and Crisis Management: Reflections in the Wake of Tragic Events at Virginia Tech”, at the closing general session on February 4, 2009.
“This particular conference is of interest to me, since while I work at a university that houses 9,000 students in its own residence halls, more than double that number live off campus, mostly in private student housing complexes,” Dr. Ferraro said.
Dr. Ferraro has worked for 28 years in higher education, as both an academic and student-life administrator. Currently, at Virginia Tech, Dr. Ferraro oversees the Schiffert Health Center, the Cook Counseling Center, the Disabilities Service Office, the Campus Alcohol Abuse Prevention Center, and Recreational Sports.
NAA’s Student Housing Conference & Exposition is geared toward operational and management professionals. In 2008, more than 500 people attended this conference, with attendance expected to exceed that number in 2009.
