WASHINGTON – June 9, 2011 – The National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) is honoring William Wollinger, SHCM, CAPS, of Boston, Mass. with its 2011 Apartment Career and Education (ACE) Award, which will be handed out in June at the 2011 NAA Education Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas.

“Bill has been an advocate for apartment industry education for many years and was critical in the development of NAAEI by serving as the institute’s first vice president when it was established in 2005,” said Jeff Lowry, CAPS, NAAEI president. “He guided NAAEI during its formative years and has tapped that same spirit by serving as a mentor to his employees – hundreds of whom he brings each year to the NAA Education Conference and Exposition in order to help them develop their careers and expand their industry knowledge.”

As president and COO of WinnResidential, Wollinger has been a strong supporter of apartment career development and encourages his employees to achieve NAAEI designations. He has been instrumental in shaping NAAEI and its programs – twice serving as president of the institute. He guided NAAEI as it developed apartment industry skill standards for leasing, maintenance and management and used those standards to rewrite all of its designation programs.

Wollinger helped to create National Apartment Careers Month and challenges his employees to promote apartment careers among high school and college students. He also invited human resources, training and operations executives throughout the apartment industry to serve as advisors to NAAEI. He recently spent two years as chairman of the Virginia Tech Residential Property Management program.

“Bill has a passion for education and understands the importance of developing programs and initiatives to increase the pool of potential employees for our industry,” said Buckingham Management President Alexandra Jackiw, who nominated him for the award. “His work with the NAA Education Institute since its establishment is a testament to his commitment to career development and apartment industry education.”

Wollinger will be recognized as part of the 2011 NAA Education Conference and Exposition on June 24 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Conference Center in Las Vegas. The NAAEI Apartment Career and Education Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the field of apartment career development and/or contributions made to, or on behalf of NAAEI and its professional education interests and initiatives. The ACE Awards are given annually and are awarded to both volunteer leaders and professional educators.
