ARLINGTON, Va. /June 28, 2010 - The National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) is pleased to announce that its Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) program has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a private non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system.

The CAMT program is the only apartment industry program to be accredited by ANSI. NAAEI is one of seven organizations to have their programs accredited by ANSI, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center.

“We are delighted to learn that the CAMT program has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute,” said Jeffery Lowry, CAPS, NAAEI President and Senior Vice President, Multifamily Services of the McDougal Companies. “NAAEI staff had every aspect of the CAMT program reviewed over two days by ANSI assessors: skill standards, assessments, curriculum, instruction and administration. The NAAEI staff worked diligently to conform to ANSI’s standards and elevate the CAMT program to this level.”

“Achieving ANSI accreditation is a huge education programming milestone for NAAEI,” said Maitri Johnson, CAPS, Chair of the Curriculum and Development committee and Executive Vice President of Riverstone Residential, Central Division. “NAAEI’s CAMT program will now be synonymous with excellence in the field of apartment maintenance.”

The announcement from ANSI comes after NAAEI was selected to participate in ANSI’s pilot Certificate Accreditation Program (ANSI-CAP) in 2009.

The Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians is for apartment maintenance technicians. The program offers a blended learning approach, with three online courses and hands-on training including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliance, and interior and exterior maintenance and repair.
