The National Apartment Association (NAA), America's leading advocate for quality rental housing, is seeking a Manager, State and Local Policy, who will serve as policy liaison to NAA members and Affiliates. This position is assigned to one of two areas, the Southern area of the Country. The Manager monitors state and local government activity and is responsible for responding to member and affiliate research requests on issues affecting the apartment industry. This position reports to the Director of Public Affairs.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Serves as policy liaison to NAA Affiliates, and direct NAA members for assigned states. Works with growing NAA affiliates by educating the members regarding government affairs issues and trends. Functions as a national strike team representative and assists affiliates with specific policy initiatives i.e., legislation, elections, referendums and advocacy.
- Monitors state and local government activity in assigned states. Manages and selects information for the Legislative Tracking System. Monitors media sources in assigned states for relevancy to NAA and industry issues.
- Responds to member and affiliate research requests by creating relevant documents, i.e. talking points, white papers, etc. on issues affecting the apartment industry.
- Provides legislative updates and briefings at affiliate board/membership meetings as needed.
- Creates presentations and policy overviews for NAA affiliates and other national level policy organizations.
- Builds relationships with state and local organizations of national coalition partners by attending organizational meetings and by monitoring policy initiatives and research.
- Updates and writes content for the NAA Web site and units Magazine.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience; excellent internet, legal and legislative research skills, oral and written communication skills, and proficiency in word, outlook, and excel.
Preferred:
- Prior government relations/public affairs experience.
