 Fair Housing

Federal law prohibits rental housing providers from discriminating against persons because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or familial status. Failure to comply with fair housing laws may result in costly lawsuits and, in some markets, the revocation of the ability to rent property. NAA therefore encourages property owners to educate themselves on fair housing laws that exist in their markets.

States and localities nationwide have expanded the scope of federal fair housing protections to include, in some cases, source of income, criminal history and sexual orientation or gender identity. Other issues covered in this section are occupancy standards, companion animals, medical marijuana and related smoking topics. Should you require more information, please contact us at 703/518-6141.
