 Questions for Town Hall Meetings 

Below are three potential questions for a member of Congress during a Town Hall meeting or teleconference. For more information on the subject areas of these questions, please refer to the Fact Sheets and Talking Points on the NAA Advocacy website.

My name is ________________ of _______________.  I’m a member of the apartment industry and represent (number of apartment units, number of members, etc.). 

Housing Finance Reform:
As you may know, Congress is working on an overhaul of the nation’s housing finance system, specifically Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  Do you believe the federal government should play some kind of role in the housing market?  And if “yes,” what?

Tax Reform:
It appears that tax reform is on the horizon in Congress.  I’m interested in knowing your views on how housing is currently treated in the tax code and what changes you think should be made as part of any reform.

Balanced Housing Policy:
In this decade, renters could make up half of all new households, but 80 percent of our housing programs and tax expenditures go to homeownership.  Should Congress establish policies to create incentives for people who choose to rent, just as there are for people who choose to buy?
